Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this special follow up event from the fine folks of the Continental Wrestling Association reboot! Live on their official youtube channel (www.youtube.com/ContinentalWrestlingAssociation), CWA put up a special bonus show where the wrestlers competing in their sixteen man tournament where the winner earns a cool $1,000,000! Some major names were revealed, some sleeper talents snuck in and plenty of intrigue and drama came our way! Here's our recap of the CWA's name reveal!
We're back at the Memphis TV Studio! A tight shot focuses on the briefcase with $1,000,000 inside of it. To the left of the briefcase we have Bob Armstrong and to the right of the briefcase we have Lance Russell! For those with inquisitive eyes, we also have Ahmed Johnson and The Big Bossman standing behind the briefcase looking pretty focused. we are about to get a reveal of the sixteen men who are scheduled to compete in the tournament for a million dollars and when asked about the two big dudes in suits standing back, Bob Armstrong says it's for the security of the wrestlers and NOT him because "I can handle myself and anybody who tries to take that million dollars is going to need a whole lot of help getting me off of them!" Today sixteen wrestlers are going to come out to sign contracts in front of Bob, Lance and the whole world. Lance Russell says that these men are signing the contracts with the understanding that once their name hits paper, they're in the tournament with no way out of it other than injury. "This is for the real men! No cowardice here! No babies here!" Bob Armstrong then interrupts to say that's technically not true because we're getting fifteen contracts getting signed. "One of them is for a guy by the name of Drew McIntyre who Bob says is currently stuck in Scotland right now due to COVID restrictions. Bob says they're going to put this contract to the side and when Drew's cleared to come to the United States, it'll be waiting for him. When Lance brings up that Drew doesn't have a lot of time, Bob Armstrong just says he's not a politician or a lawyer or the guy in charge of the border so he can't handle that only adding that Drew's got a contract that's Bob willing to hold until the clock runs out.
Ultimately though "The Bullet" and Lance want to talk about who IS here. He wants to bring out one of the men who is getting a deal and that's the man he is very excited. Bob said that this guy could've gone anywhere in the world but the million dollar payout drew him to Continental where he's looking to change his fortunes and secure the biggest payday of his life. That man is "Shawn Michaels!" Like every great carny commentator, Lance gawks and marks for the arrival of a big name and out comes the man himself! Shawn Michaels comes out and in a pretty funny moment, Bob Armstrong says normally he wouldn't refer to another man as a Heartbreak Kid but in this case he'll make an exception. Lance Russell steps aside so Shawn Michaels can sign his contract and then Shawn Michaels is given a chance to speak a little bit. Shawn Michaels says that Bob's right in that his skills could've taken him anywhere in the world and he had plenty of opportunities to travel around the world and chase gold. "I chose right here because it gave me one million reasons to sign on the dotted line!" Shawn Michaels says that he knows sixteen of the toughest men in the world are going to come to sign a contract to chase the same prize and nothing breeds cutthroat competition like cold hard cash. "And I just want everybody to know that every bit of my reputation? From being the Showstopper to being the Icon to being a hell raiser in the locker room to even being a guy who will lay down for ABSOLUTELY NOBODY? All true and all well earned and I got news for ya, if ya think that's going to go away with $1,000,000 on the line? You are in for the world's biggest surprise!" Bob Armstrong says he is happy to have Shawn here and Shawn says he's happy to be here before admitting that he's also not sure who else is here. "I guess I'll have to find out just like everybody else!"
Shawn Michaels is in!
Bob Armstrong talks about the arrival of Shawn Michaels to kick things off and says that if Michaels coming the money doesn't get your heart pumping then you may be dead. Lance refers to Shawn Michaels as the pioneer of an exciting brand of wrestling and in that same vein, Bob Armstrong has two more guys he's excited to announce and introduce who wrestle that same brand of style. The first is a guy who he personally has high expectations for because he comes in with an athletic background as a former football player for the Cincinnati Bengals. "He's made the move over to join our sport and I've seen this guy have some of the best matches of anybody I know. He's a special talent and I want him to come out!" Out joining Bob on the stage we have Brian Pillman! The man known as "Flyin' Brian" comes out onto the stage and Pillman seems more reserved than usual as he comes out and signs his contract, giving handshakes and smiles all around. Lance Russell asks Brian Pillman to introduce himself to the Memphis wrestling audience and Pillman gives us a brief rundown of his background from the multiple surgeries he had as a child ("which explains the raspiness of my voice") to being an undersized nose guard who competed at the NFL level to making it to the Hart Family dungeon and now his final stop off is in Memphis. Pillman talks about bouncing around looking for a home and he thinks he's found it here BUT beyond finding a place to call him, he thinks he found the path to make himself $1,000,000 richer!
Brian Pillman is IN!
As Pillman is leaving, another guy is approaching and the two stop to shake hands and have a brief chit chat. Lance Russell asks Bob Armstrong to talk about this next guy and Armstrong says this next guy has a world of potential in pro wrestling. He isn't the guy who is going to talk a lot but he's going to work his tail off and he has $1,000,000 reasons to do so. This man is Cedric Alexander! Lance Russell puts Cedric over as a guy he's heard about through some of his amazing matches in Virginia and the midwestern area and as Alexander is signing his contract, Bob Armstrong says that Alexander is the next step in that evolution of guys who wrestle like Shawn Michaels and Brian Pillman. Alexander cuts a very brief and polite promo about being happy to be here in Memphis and how he's happy to be in a competition with such great talent. Alexander knows everybody is going to be gunning for the money but he's also looking to put on a show to impress the fans and make them realize that his style of wrestling is the next evolution of pro wrestling.
Cedric Alexander is IN!
Up next Lance Russell and Bob Armstrong want to take a second to talk about how we've seen some high fliers in the tournament but now he wants to turn things around and take a look at somebody who doesn't quite fit that mold, instead arguing that this man is unique in that he has a style onto himself. "Some call it a shoot fighting style, some call it mixed martial arts I just like to call it effective!" He wants to introduce Ken Shamrock to the mix! "Formerly of the Ultimate Fighting Championship! A former champion there and a Hall Of Famer for that organization!" says Lance Russell as Ken Shamrock comes out looking yoked to the gills! Ken Shamrock walks up to the podium and pauses to look at the money sitting there, giving a "Wow" before he walks over and signs his contract. Ken Shamrock is interviewed briefly by Lance Russell and he just wants to talk about how he was a pioneer for MMA and how he won titles and tournaments---but he's never won a million dollars. Standing on this stage and looking at the money, he thinks of all the things he could do with it from restarting his Lion's Den gym to buying a brand new house and car to giving his family the life they've always deserved. When Ken sees that money, he's reminded of all the things he's always wanted but never had and he brings up his short fuse. "It'll be lit when somebody tries to stand in the way of me and that money. Anybody, and I'm emphasizing this, ANYBODY who is in the way of my money will be taken care of!"
Ken Shamrock is IN!
We are moving on now! With Shamrock out of the way, Armstrong wants to again emphasize the fact that they've got guys of all different types of wrestling styles. "We saw guys who might be more of the high fliers and we just saw a guy who has a more mixed style and so how about a wild man? How about a guy who has been around so long he's seen EVERY single style?" Bob Armstrong wants us to welcome Terry Funk to the scene! Lance Russell is uncomfortable with Terry Funk coming out here but Bob Armstrong assures Lance that Terry Funk has mellowed out a bit since we last saw him. Out from the back comes Terry Fiunk and Terry offers a handshake to Lance. Lance apologizes if he seems rude but he's been in this studio with Terry repeatedly causing havoc so he's not comfortable shaking hands. Terry Funk does his legendary catchphrases about being meaner than a rattlesnake and tougher than shoe leather but he's a different man now. He's no longer middle aged and crazy but instead he's middle aged and medicated. "They got me on pills to keep me a bit more restrained" says Funk. He says that he's coming for the $1,000,000 and to show people that an old dog can learn nw tricks and a leopard can change its spots. "Be prepared for a more calm Funker in the coming days" says Terry as she shakes hands with his old rival Bob Armstrong!
Terry Funk Is IN!
With Terry Funk shuffling off to Buffalo, we've got another wrestler coming out. This one is D'lo Brown! Bob Armstrong was hoping D'lo would wait a little bit but D'lo Brown says he's tired of waiting. An annoyed D'lo Brown ask swhy he had to wait and he angrily says that Bob Armstrong just trumpeted out two old men and they couldn't give him the same respect. Armstrong apologizes to D'lo and D'lo Brown demands to be given his respect! "Just sign your contract, man" says Armstrong and D'Lo Brown refuses until he's given the proper respect! LAnce Russell asks why D'lo's issue is and all D'lo wants is respect. "If I offered you one of sixteen exclusive contracts!" D'lo Brown signs his contract and wants Bob, Lance and all of the fans of Continental to know that he is D'lo Brown and THEY ALL BETTER RECOGNIZE! D'lo Brown says Bob needs to come at him with respect next time as all Bob Armstrong can do is roll his eyes and utter a few choice phrases under his breath!
D'lo Brown is IN!
"If they get anymore like that guy, we're in for a rough time" says Lance Russell as Bob admits that guys like D'lo have a tendency to "act a little silly sometimes." He puts D'lo Brown over as a tremendous competitor and a hard worker who should be able to mix his talent with his attitude. He says D'lo's got a bad attitude and before he can continue the funsies, out next we have Ricky Steamboat! Bob Armstrong and Lance Russell bend over backwards to put Ricky Steamboat over as a family man and a guy with the perfect attitude for pro wrestling. "One of the greatest competitors of all time!" says Lance Russell and Bullet Bob agrees. Ricky signs his contract and then gets a chance to speak as Lance Russell puts him over as the perfect wrestler which Steamboat politely says isn't the case. Ricky says he's just a guy who works harder, works longer and focuses on being the best he can be. "Maybe not everybody can say that but I can and I say it proudly!" Steamboat says he's competing for the million dollars because like any father, he just wants a better life for his son than what he had. Steamboat says that $1,000,000 will go right into a savings account for his son's college and that's what motivates him more than anyone else. "The Dragon" promises that no matter who lines up opposite him, no man is going to stand in the way of the money he's chasing to provide for his family.
